Christmas and New Year opening times 2019

The Christmas and New Year holidays will soon be here, but people in Leeds can still get support with their mental health. There is always someone to talk to if you need it and places open that can help people experiencing crisis.


Helplines

Connect - helpline open 6pm-2am every night of the year for people living in Leeds, including Christmas and New Year. Provides emotional support and information for people in distress. Call 0808 800 1212. You can find out about online support on the website.

Samaritans - helpline open 24/7 every day and night of the year, including Christmas and New Year. Call 116 123.


Crisis services in Leeds

Well-Bean Café - Offers emotional one-to-one support for up to one hour, in a safe social space and practical support focusing on emotional health, wellbeing, loneliness and isolation. Runs every night of the year, including Christmas and New Year, with different venues depending on the night. See website for details of how to access the Café. In Christmas week it's based at:

  • Tuesday 24 December - Touchstone House, 2-4 Middleton Crescent, Beeston LS11 6JU

Dial House - out-of-hours service in Leeds for people in crisis. Open 6pm-2am every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the year, including Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Call 0113 260 9328 or text 07922 249 452 to access. BSL users can also text to ask an interpreter to be available.

Safe Zone - The Market Place's crisis service for young people aged 11-17, open on Monday evenings from 7-10pm. Open as usual on Monday 23 December and Monday 29 December. See website for details of how to access the Safe Zone.

Young people

Teen Connect helpline - emotional support for 13-18 years olds, open every night of the year from 6pm-2am: call 0808 800 1212. Text and online support also available - see website

The Market Place drop-in - support for 13-25 year-olds on any issue that is affecting you. See website for details. Their opening times for the holidays are:

  • Saturday 21 December - closed.
  • Sunday 22 December - open 2-4pm.
  • Monday 23 December - open 3-6pm.
  • Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25, Thursday 26 December - closed.
  • Friday 27, Saturday 28, Sunday 29 December - open 2-4pm.
  • Monday 30 December - open 3-6pm.
  • Tuesday 31 December, Wednesday 1 January - closed.
  • From Thursday 2 January - open as usual, see website.

Safe Zone - The Market Place's crisis service for young people aged 11-17, open on Monday evenings from 7-10pm. Open as usual on Monday 23 December and Monday 29 December. See website for details of how to access the Safe Zone.

Support for asylum seekers and refugees

Leeds Migration Partnership - has brought together lots of information about what's available over the holidays. See their Resource of the week.

Migrant Help - telephone advice and guidance for asylum support, and repairs issues is now open all day and night, every day of the year, including Christmas and New Year.

Meeting Point - running a drop-in 1.30-4pm on Monday 23 and Monday 30 December. This will be a reduced drop-in mainly focussed on providing food provision and a warm, friendly social space for refugees and asylum seekers.

PAFRAS - Christmas Party is on Wednesday 18 December 10am-1pm. It's a drop-in and will be at St Aidan's Community Hall, off Roundhay Road, Harehills. Their next drop-in will be on Wednesday 8 January 2020 (closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day).

Support After Rape and Sexual Violence Leeds (SARSVL) - Rape Crisis Centre for Leeds offering support to all women who have been affected by sexual violence of any kind at any time in their lives. Call 0808 802 3344. Usual opening, except closed on New Year's Eve:

  • Mondays open 6-8pm.
  • Tuesdays open 8-11pm, but closed on 31 December.
  • Wednesdays open 6-8pm.
  • Thursdays open 8-11pm.
  • Fridays open 6-8pm.
  • Saturdays closed.
  • Sundays open 2-5pm.

Leeds Domestic Violence Service - If you want help, advice or to refer yourself call the Helpline on 0113 246 0401 which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year, including Christmas and New Year.

Victim Support - for people who've been affected by crime at any time and need confidential support or information. Their national Supportline is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including Christmas and New Year. Call them free on 0808 168 9111.

Forward Leeds - alcohol and drug service in Leeds for adults, young people and families. You can find details of their opening times over Christmas and New Year on their website. They're closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
