Create a training plan

Investing in good quality mental health training can be an important step in proactively managing wellbeing in your workplace.

It's good practice to develop a training plan as part of your overarching wellbeing strategy. The plan should consider the different training options available, the particular needs of your organisation and what you need the training to address, for example:

  • Promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
  • Raise awareness and understanding of mental health.
  • Help colleagues and managers to have better conversations about mental health.

The best approach is to pick and choose appropriate types of training for different managers and team members rather than to roll out one type of training to all staff.

Find the right training for your team

Different kinds of organisations will, of course, have different budgets but you may want to consider a stepped approach which introduces:

  • Mental health awareness training for all staff and new starters.
  • A number of designated Mental Health First (MHFA) Aiders and MHFA Champions who are spread across teams in your organisation.
  • Training for managers to help them feel confident supporting their team members.
  • Resilience training as part of personal skills development.
