When you come for an assessment with the Community Mental Health Team, you will see a mental health professional. The assessment will normally take place at a Community Mental Health Unit. But sometimes if you feel it difficult to leave your home we’ll come out and visit you, if that’s what you’d like. We allocate about an hour to each assessment. You can bring somebody supportive with you if that’s what you’d like to do.

We treat your information in confidence and we only share it with people we think need to know. The mental health assessment is about assessing the whole person, so we ask quite a lot of questions, firstly about your mental health; we also ask about your physical health and about your life as a whole. It’s useful to know what medication you are on at the moment.

It’s a good idea to have a goal in mind. What would you like to happen? How would you like your mental health to be different? What does recovery mean to you?
