Come together to walk, connect and raise awareness of suicide prevention
On 10 September 2026, communities and organisations across Leeds will be coming together to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.
Every suicide is a tragedy that has a profound impact on families, friends, colleagues and communities. Suicide prevention is everyone’s business.
This year’s theme, Changing the Narrative, encourages us to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide, talk openly about mental health and help people know where they can turn for support.
To mark the day, community organisations across Leeds are hosting seven free Walks of Hope. Whether you come on your own, with friends, family or colleagues, you’re welcome to join a walk. It’s an opportunity to connect with others, enjoy being active outdoors and show that nobody has to face difficult times alone.

Talking can save lives
Many people affected by suicidal thoughts feel isolated or unable to speak about how they are feeling. By creating safe spaces for conversation and showing compassion towards one another, we can help people feel heard and supported.
World Suicide Prevention Day encourages us all to:
- Start conversations about mental health and suicide.
- Challenge stigma and misconceptions.
- Look out for friends, family members and colleagues who may be struggling.
- Learn where to find support for ourselves and others.
- Help create a community where it’s okay to ask for help.
Support is always available
Talking about suicide, loss or mental health can bring up difficult feelings. If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. You do not have to face things alone.
Reaching out and talking to someone you trust can make a difference, and there are organisations and services ready to help:
- Need urgent help?
- How to help someone in crisis
- Emotional support helplines
- Local support services for suicidal thoughts and bereavement
- Find support for men’s mental health in Leeds
- Find support for women’s mental health in Leeds
- Mental health support for Deaf people in Leeds
- Wellbeing support for refugees, people seeking asylum, and migrants in Leeds
- NHS and statutory mental health services
- Support for children and young people
